Two and a half years ago my children and I moved to Florida. Like so many others who have moved to other cities, states we were looking for that New and Improved Life.
If you have read my previous blogs (now deleted) and if you know me well, you will know that I have suffered from depression and chronic pain for years. I was told by so many doctors that the pain I was feeling was from my depression and that depression could cause this amount of pain and that I just needed to take “these pills” and things would get better.
After I moved to Florida I was officially diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis & Lupus, I had already been diagnosed years ago with Fibromyalgia and Ankylosing Spondylitis (form of Arthritis in the spine). Believe it or not I was actually excited when I was diagnosed because finally I felt that I was justified for the amount of pain that I had been in, the weird rashes on my skin etc. I even remember my friend Barb calling me and telling me that she thanked God that I was diagnosed because now I could focus on what was actually wrong with my body, not my mind.
During this time, I had continued some of my anti depression meds but now my new and improved doctors started adding their “cocktails” to my daily intake. I was on two different forms of chemo therapy and 12 prescribed medicines that were all to be taken 3 times per day. I was not living, I was surviving. I was promised quantity of life but no quality and trust me when I say there is no quality of life being on all of those pills.
2015 How my life changed!
I took a job with Paleo On The Go, in Largo Florida not knowing what a whirlwind of change was about to take place in my life. At first I thought this is my job and this is what I do and I came in every day as any other employee. I started reading, paying attention, actually taking an interest in what Paleo was and what Paleo could do for me. Paleo On The Go is a Paleo Manufacturing Kitchen that delivers all over the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
I kept hearing about how people were using food as medicine, how people had actually reversed Autoimmune Diseases by eating a Paleo diet. My interest is now more than peaked, my cooking abilities and recipe development skills have now swung into Mario Andretti speed.
I am happy to announce that I am completely medicine free, no longer on chemo. I am no longer eating processed foods or foods with chemicals and preservatives in it, I am eating a REAL FOOD diet and I have begun the process of reducing the amount of chemicals I use in my house, on my skin etc. I am going back to the way the earth and humans were intended to live.
That is what this blog is going to be about, my journey into living a life of quality, health and happiness not just quantity.
Let me introduce myself; Hi, my name is Marc A. Roark and I am the Chief Operating Officer of Paleo On The Go and I have nick named myself Florida Paleo Guy.
